I work as a remote R&D strategy consultant

I am a microbiologist and data scientist with experience in program management, commercial analyses, and working with diverse teams.

My expertise is in the human microbiome and infectious disease, but I have helped launch new programs in diverse fields such as oncology and autism.

As a remote R&D strategy consultant, I have created frameworks that help companies make R&D strategy decisions and launch new programs or initiatives.

Marina joined Finch as one of our first employees while we were preparing to launch the company and helped build it into what it has become today. She has demonstrated remarkable tenacity, resourcefulness, creativity, flexibility and dedication in the face of significant strategic challenges. Her work has helped inform Finch strategy at every turn. She has prepared and presented comprehensive technical and business cases for potential new programs, while also helping plan and launch programs in ulcerative colitis, autism, oncology, and hepatitis B. She is a one-woman machine, and a great teammate and collaborator.

— Mark Smith, CEO of Finch Therapeutics Group

Marina was essential in designing OpenBiome's process for defining and launching new research programs. She completed multiple projects efficiently and independently while making strong connections with team members. I would enjoy working with her again and would strongly recommend her to clients needing research strategy consulting, especially for microbiome applications.

— Scott Olesen, Former Scientific Director at OpenBiome

I've worked with Marina over more than four years and would always jump at the chance to work with her more.

In addition to being a excellent scientist, one of Marina's exceptional abilities is tackling complicated and poorly-defined cross-functional projects and just getting things done. She jumps into new problems with both feet, breaks them down, asks hard questions, and doesn't get lost in the extraneous details.

Marina is beloved by her team. She has a natural ability for forming productive relationships with diverse stakeholders and building consensus.

— Sonia Timberlake, VP of Research at Finch Therapeutics

Background

My scientific interests are in the intersection between the human microbiome and health/disease, and my main skills are in the synthesis of scientific, clinical, and business development data to help launch of new programs and initiatives.

Previously, I was a Program Development Manager at Finch Therapeutics, working with the Business Development, Research, CMC, and Clinical teams to develop and launch new programs.

I have also worked as a research scientist focused on isolating bacteria, and creating large bacterial libraries for screening. I received my PhD in Chemical Biology from Suzanne Walker’s lab at Harvard Medical School, where I developed a new method for creating transposon libraries and for using machine learning to predict the mechanism of action of new antibiotics.

I give 100% to everything I do, communicate effectively, and work efficiently to complete projects.

Other Interests

I love the outdoors, particularly trail running and backpacking. In 2019, I hiked the Appalachian Trail. Since then, I co-founded Challenge and Beauty, a company that publishes hiking and trail running guides to parks around the world.
